Is There A Correlation Between Price and Quality When it Comes To Contemporary and Mass Luxury Cashmere?
Cashmere is everywhere in the contemporary range these days from $100 sweaters to $700 cardigans. And yet we find ourselves totally confused by the seeming complete lack of correlation between price and quality when it comes to cashmere. We were browsing the mid-season sale at net-a-porter and frankly the knitwear section got us wondering. How can we trust that any of this very pricey sweaters won't pill after a few wears?
Now we now that good cashmere comes from the belly of goats and the longer and softer the cashmere is the better. Pill comes from breaking short fibers in sweaters not carefully sourced. But frankly in a culture of mass market luxury and contemporary designers with high prices that come not from better quality but from limited production runs and poor sourcing options how on earth can we trust that if we shell out a few hundred for a sweater we won't regret it within weeks? We don't mind paying a premium for a really good sweater but we must wonder if it is too dangerous to buy something like this Sass and Bide Let It Go Cardigan
Sure it looks cute but how are we supposed to know where they get their cashmere Even on sale it seems like a big risk.
The trouble is that the only places you really can guarantee quality are with old line brands like Pringle. And you are REALLY going to pay to get a classic cashmere sweater. But then again if you buy a new $300 sweater each season in 5 years you could have just bought this Pringle of Scotland Cable Knit Cashmere Sweater.

Makes a girl wonder huh? It has a very put up or shut up feel to it. Maybe we will just only buy real designer pieces or cheap chic pieces from now on.

or.. you could knit your own
